Facilities

John Knox Cooperative Preschool is a very well equipped school.  It has many things children love to see and do.  There are three rooms for the children: Room One consists of tables for puzzles, library, games, small manipulatives, and a science table; Room Two has blocks for large motor skills, dress-up and a family life center; last, Room 3 is where the crafts are created (such as painting, play dough, special projects etc.).

The play yard has swings, a slide, climbing bars, a sandbox, diggers, play house, garden area for children to water, wheel toys, and other outside play things.  There is a large grassy area surrounded by a  cement walk for tricycles and wagons.  The grass is used for playing ball, tumbling and running.

Staff

The staff at John Knox has many years of experience teaching at the preschool level. They are knowledgeable, loving and supportive to the children, parents and families. Every one of our staff members is a former Parent of the School The Teacher / Student ratio is 1:5.

Kathie Hammer

Director/Teacher

Kathie joined the staff of John Knox Co-op preschool in 1972 and became director in 1980. Mrs. Hammer feels it is important to take an active role in guiding and developing her students socially, emotionally, physically and academically. She believes it is important to keep current, and does this by being part of the Las Positas Advisory Board, the Dublin Unified School District Advisory Board and with an active membership in Director of the Valley. Her outstanding skills are complimented by three additional teachers who bring love, care and knowledge to our school.

Leslie James

Assistant Director/Teacher

Leslie James, our Assistant Director has been a part of the Co-op family since 1994 when her daughter and son joined the preschool.  She enjoyed working on the Parent Board for 3 years and began teaching here in 1999 when her children entered 1st and 3rd grade. She earned her bachelors degree in food science/chemistry from UC Davis and has taken her ECE and Director’s  classes at DVC and Las Positas.  She has been a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church since 1992.  Leslie enjoys encouraging the children’s discovery and fostering their love for learning.

Stacy Omo

Teacher

Stacy Omo, our 4 year old Developmental Kindergarten Teacher, has been with John Knox Co-op Preschool since 2000. Stacy earned her degree from Heald Business College and received her Early Childhood Education degree from Las Positas College. Stacy's three boy's attended John Knox Co-Op Preschool and so did her husband with Kathie Hammer as their teacher!

Alice Richards

Teacher

Alice Richards, a Teacher for the 4 year-old class, received her Early Childhood Education coursework at Las Positas College. Before substituting and teaching at a local preschool, she was a stay-at-home mom with her four children for 15 years. Alice has been teaching at JKCP since 2007. She was a Co-Op board member when her youngest daughter attended JKCP for two years. Alice has been a member of John Knox Church for 2000.
